What does biking mean to you? Is it an enjoyable way to get some exercise? An eco-friendly transportation alternative? A Saturday activity that you enjoy with family or friends?
To us, it’s something deeper. It’s an opportunity to do better by the youth that we serve. It’s a way to show people that we are making a difference in the community.
The Harrisburg Bike Share is not only an asset to our community, it’s a gift to our students.
When we introduced the Harrisburg Bike Share in September of 2017, we had several intentions:
1. Launch a useful, proven concept into the city that would better the community
2. Spread awareness and support about our organization, Communities In Schools of Pennsylvania (CISPA)
3. Take advantage of (region’s bikeability)
The Harrisburg Bike Share provides resources to Communities In Schools of Pennsylvania in support of their mission--to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Our goal is to make it possible for teachers to teach, and students to learn by providing the students with what they need to show up to school ready to learn and succeed. From clean clothes, to a warm meal, or even a caring relationship with a dependable adult-- students’ needs are assessed and accounted for by our site-based coordinators to bring them one-step closer to graduation and a prosperous life.
We are proud to have introduced a program that adds convenience and joy to the lives of our residents and improves the lives of our students. We bike for kids, so that we can make a difference, one child and one bike ride at a time.
